WARNING: You may go into diabetic shock from reading this post. Don’t say you weren’t warned. Don’t sue me if you end up needing like 5 shots of insulin. This post has lots of sugar in it.

I told you in this post that it’s Lovey’s birthday and I’ve made him some special birthday treats. I also told you I’d post about the ‘surprise treats’ I couldn’t tell you about in the last post. So you know about the popcorn cupcakes I made because Lovey is addicted to popcorn. Another really special food in our life together is sushi. It was our first date and (not coincidentally) what we ate before he popped the big question. And we both can throw down on sushi like Japan is about to fall off the Earth. Thank goodness it’s staying put and we don’t have to worry about that. We’re not slowing down on our sushi eating though.

I found a post about Candy Sushi on Mommy Knows and thought it was a great idea and knew that I would make that for Lovey’s birthday when I saw it. I made the rice krispies, using this recipe. I used the microwave directions, and they worked like a charm. Didn’t even make a mess. Then I squished them out really thin (1/2 inch thick) into a cookie sheet and let them cool.

I used gummi worms as my sushi filling. At least 2 gummies per sushi roll, and I let them stick out the end just like the famous spider roll.

Then I wrapped them in fruit roll ups that served as the ‘seaweed’. (Side note: unrolling fruit roll ups is harder than you think… be patient.)

I tried to make Lovey’s favorite roll- Tobiko Lovers – using some red sprinkles. Those didn’t turn out as good.

Then I got tired of rolling and made some nigiri sushi with swedish fish and a little fruit roll up wrapped around.

These are SUPER easy and really fun to make. It’s like crafts that you can eat. You could use whatever candy you had on hand if you don’t have any gummy worms. Twizzlers, Sour Patch Kids, get creative!

I bought some little Oriental spoon things that you get with soup at restaurants, just for decoration. I love the way these turned out and I am excited to show them off!

Are you still with me? Have you passed out due to sugar shock? I warned you.

Happy Birthday Lovey!
