Last night for dinner, my super hot hubby and I grilled. We had been planning to do this for a LONG while, but something kept coming up. So yesterday, we both came home from work, went to work out, and came home to some beautiful Spring weather… which is also the same as beautiful cookout weather!
I usually let Josh do the big MANLY meats and grilling… you know- steaks, ribs, chicken on the grill, sausage. He had done some googling on how to best cook a steak. And man oh man, he must’ve hit the jackpot! This is actually the second time he’s tried this way- and both times he’s knocked it out of the park!
This meal was INSANELY easy and surprisingly quick to make (other than the 1 hour to let the steak rest…). It took us about 25 minutes to do the whole thing! I chopped up some veggies I had picked up at the grocery store – asparagus, yellow squash, mushrooms, and green and red bell peppers. I tossed those with a splash of olive oil and sprinkled a little Mrs. Dash (my Dad’s favorite!!). I threw those on a grill pan that we got for our wedding, and Josh just turned them a few times while the steak was cooking. We also had a salad- easy enough to throw together.
So now to the part you really want to know… what IS the best way to cook a steak?
- Steaks (we used NY Strip… just buy whatever is on sale)
- Olive oil
- Steak seasoning
Take the steaks out of the fridge exactly an hour before you want to put them on the grill. Just let them sit there and chill out on the counter while you go do something fun like lay in the hammock and drink a glass of Dr. Loosen’s 2008 Reisling. More on that next time. Then when you are ready to grill- lightly coat the steaks (both sides) with olive oil. Then use whatever steak seasoning you want. We used McCormick Grill Mates Spicy Montreal Steak. Emphasis on the Spicy. Just sprinkle a little on both sides. Once the grill is nice and blazing- put them on. DON’T MOVE THEM. Let them cook 4 minutes per side. And then take them off. This next step is VERY Paula Deen-like. Put some butter on top while they cool. Trust me on this part, forget your diet and DON’T SKIP THIS STEP! Your taste buds will thank you later. Let them rest for 5-10 minutes, serve with the tasty veggies from the grill, and there ya go! Grilled steak and veggies in a flash! Mmmm. Enjoy!
I like my hot husband’s grilling skills 🙂
